History of Chiropractic

There has been plenty of evidence and demonstrations of healers, therapists and physicians executing manual manipulation and handling of the spine going way back to the ancient Greeks and history of the Chinese.

DR. D.D Palmer - Austin Chiropractic - Dr. James Lee

These manual manipulations were believed and considered  to cure and heal numerous ailments, not just those associated with the spine.   It wasn’t until 1895 that a Doctor by the name of D.D. Palmer performed a spinal adjustment on a gentleman named Harvey Lillard who was partially deaf at the time. After a few adjustments, the man noticed that he was starting to regain some of his hearing which improved over time. Dr. Palmer believed that by performing more adjustments of the spine that several more problems, pains and ailments could be attained and even possibly eliminated all-together. All this was considered because the spine has the ability to press on numerous nerves throughout the entire body.

A few years after this, Dr. Palmer decided to open what is now called the “Palmer School of Chiropractic” located in Davenport, Iowa which still educates doctors of Chiropractic Care to this day.  Over time, the fundamental rudimentary ideas behind of chiropractic haven’t changed that much, but giant footsteps have been made as progressively more people have experienced and received the great benefits and health of Chiropractic care.

In several modernistic medical practices of today, drugs are allotted to treat everything from pain to what the ailments may be. We all know that by using  prescription drugs there are always the chance of undesirable or dangerous side effects. These drugs can also be hard on the liver and kidneys if used long-term.
